Year 4

Year 4

Year are exposed to a wide range of topics that expand their knowledge each term.

Our Curriculum
In Numeracy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills are improved as the children are further taught how to organise their work and check results.

Literacy abilities are enhanced in Creative Writing by exposing the children to interesting vocabulary and writing styles through several lesson objectives.

Scientific enquiry at this stage enables the children to find their inner ‘Einstein’ by posing questions for investigations and drawing conclusions from their observations. The world in the past and as we know it is also explored in History, Geography, Citizenship and Religious Education. From Nigeria, across Europe and even Asia, key events in the past and the way of life of different people around the world are learnt in each new topic.

All our lessons aim to be fun learning experiences, using ICT presentations, learning resources and kinesthetic activities which take full advantage of the school and community environment.

Our Co-curricular activities
The children partake in physical activities such as Taekwondo and Swimming. The Temple School Swim Team has several students from the Year 4 group.

Expressive arts are explored in Contemporary dance as well, which the children are always excited to be part of.

The Year 4 pupils can join their club of choice, with options including the Science Club, Drama club and Green Fingers. These are just a few of the club activities lined up for the children to choose from in the Summer Term.

All our children are given opportunities to shine in school competitions such as the A* Star Reader and Big Writing. The children are also involved in external competitions such as the AISEN Math, Spelling and Science Competitions.

This year (2018), Temple School emerged first in the Math Competition, with a pupil representative from Year 4.

Our field trips are always a thrill for the children. Each trip is planned to further boost and expand the lesson objectives of topics taught in the classroom. This avenue of learning incorporates fun and learning for the children.

Our Class Assembly
Each Easter term, the Year 4 group presents a special assembly to the whole school and parents as well. Every child is involved in the class assembly and has their time to shine on the stage.

This year, our drama production was titled ‘The Magic Carpet’. The audience was enthralled by the witty dialogue and acting skills of the children. The special sound effects accompanying each scene made the presentation even more interesting to watch.

The assembly was highlighted by an entertaining dance presentation, which journeyed through pop music from the 80s till now. The excitement and pride the children feel after the assembly showcase is a confidence booster for each child.

This is in the light of helping every child develop their potential, as is the school’s Ethos.

Parental Involvement
Research has shown that parents play a pivotal role in the educational development of their children. Thus, parental involvement is continually encouraged by the Year 4 team in all aspects of the children’s school life through Homework diaries and Parents Discussion Day.

Our Year 4 Parents are always supportive of our Year 4 activities. Subsequently, our children show greater interest and aim to give their best effort in all that they do.

Special Facilities
Team teaching is always a refresher for the children, as they are open to learning from other class teachers in the Year Group.

Our Year 4 team works purposefully, regularly and cooperatively to help our pupils learn. The teachers work together to set goals, prepare individual lesson plans, teach and evaluate the results.

Our wall displays are keyed towards topics being covered in the term. All displays aim to be visually engaging as well as interactive for the children. The children’s works are also showcased in each classroom and around the school for the viewing pleasure of all who visit.

Why Year 4 is Special
The Year 4 team comprises class teachers who are committed to bringing out the best in our pupils. We truly believe that every child is good at something and our job is to find out what that is. Our teachers are dedicated to this cause and continue to work passionately towards it each day.
